Welcome Parents!

Your childs participate in Jupiter Mustangs Cheerleading is a fun, healthy and rewarding activity that promotes individual confidence, team building, organizational and personal discipline skills that can last a lifetime. While this journey is personal to each individual cheerleader, it is equally important for you as the parent to participate in your childs experience.

VOLUNTEER
Parents! Becoming an active participant in this experience is easy and rewarding for you.
The #1 way is to volunteer! First lets dispel a common misconception:
You do not need to make a full time commitment in order to volunteer.
You can offer your help as time permits simply talk with your coach(s) and let them know you are available at that time. Hand out water. Pass out snacks. Help during practice. The more things you can do to help the more time the coaches will have to devote to training the cheerleaders and the more each child (yours included) will gain in their experience.

Conditioning.
This is ONLY about your childs ability to participate with a greatly reduced risk of injury and you the parent are the front line of defense in this battle. Major concerns and how YOU can help:

  • Dehydration.
    This is South Florida. Temperatures and Humidity are a constant battle. Practices are often outside, games are always outside and dehydration can occur. While the Coaches and volunteers watch for dehydration, parents can greatly help by sending their children to practice with water. Encourage your child to drink often. If you are at the practice or game hand them a drink at every break. Encourage your child(ren) to drink plenty and often. Please read this excellent summary article from National Athletic Trainers’ Association (nata.org) on dehydration and heat illness.

  • Stretching (warm up / warm down)
    Please talk to your child(ren) about the importance of full participation in the stretches as directed by their coach. These stretches are specifically designed to help reduce the risk of injury to the cheerleader. Stretching is an important part of cheerleader saftey.
